EXAM REVIEW
MR. DEGREGORIO
2.5 Explain the important role that ATP serves in metabolism.
Vocabulary
Tier 3
ATP - energy molecule in the cell
Metabolism - a summary of all the chemical reactions in an organism
Essential Questions
1. How does ATP provide energy?
2. How do heterotrophs make ATP?
ATP
ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate. It is a molecule. When any of those three phosphates are broken off, they release energy.
ATP is made in the mitochondria. The sugar we eat goes to the mitochondria along with the oxygen we breath to make ATP.
