6.2 Analyze changes in population size and biodiversity (speciation and extinction) that result from the following: natural causes, changes in climate, human activity, and the introduction of invasive, non-native species.
Vocabulary Tier 3
Deforestation - cutting down forests Climate change Greenhouse effect - see below Glacier - rivers of ice Fossil fuels - dead organisms that have turned into oil, coal and natural gas which humans burn for energy
Essential Questions 1. How does burning fossil fuels increase the average global temperature?
2. How does deforestation disrupt the carbon/oxygen cycle?
3. Why are humans transforming the planets natural ecosystem balance?
Deforestation
Humans need to cut trees down for FARMING and to use the WOOD. The problem is we have become to numerous and overpopulated the planet. We need to protect forested land, biodiversity, lower the number of children per woman globally and stop being so materialistic.
They did him dirty.
Global Warming/Climate Change
High global temps make glaciers melt, raise sea level, change precipitation patterns
Greenhouse Effect
The Greenhouse Effect is the reason we can live on the planet. It keeps temperatures livable for most organisms. The problem is that we are adding CO2 and CH4 (methane) to the air which is trapping more heat than is normal.
Extra heat causes glaciers to melt and sea levels to rise and weather patterns to change
